What You’ll Learn

Five Winds Tai Chi is a complete system

calm on the outside, powerful on the inside.

In class you’ll build:

Better posture and balance (without stiffness)

Smooth, joint-friendly movement that strengthens legs and spine

Breath + timing for calm focus and steady energy

Tai Chi fundamentals that actually make the form work

• A clear route into the deeper Five Winds syllabus over time

No pressure. No performance. Just consistent training—done properly.

Who It’s For

This class is a great fit if you:

• Want a beginner-friendly start with real instruction

• Prefer a martial-rooted Tai Chi (not just “slow waving”)

• Sit at a desk / feel stiff / want to move better

• Want a practice that supports stress, sleep, and resilience

• Trained before and want to return with structure

You don’t need flexibility, fitness, or prior experience. You just need to show up.

Meet Your Instructor: Brian

Brian began Tai Chi in 1979 in Edinburgh (St Stephen Street) training the Cheng Man Ching Yang 108 under Sandy Cuthbert.

In 1981, looking for a fuller martial syllabus—including weapons and self-defence—he joined Ian Cameron’s class in Leith. Brian trained with Ian through multiple Edinburgh venues over the years, and in June 2019 Ian awarded him a Senior Instructor Status Certificate.

Brian has continued training consistently, including ongoing practice within the wider Five Winds community.

Retreats

Tai Chi + Yoga Retreat Weekends (Loch Rannoch)

Brian and his wife Tanya have long run yoga retreats, adding a Tai Chi session that became a favourite with guests.

The retreats now take place at Loch Rannoch Hotel & Spa, with six weekend retreats planned for 2026, organised by the hotel and facilitated by Brian and Tanya.

If you enjoy Tai Chi and want a deeper weekend reset, ask Brian for the retreat details.
